mwegKhyber Pakhtunkhwa (in mwewpashtu: خیبر پښتو‌نخوا), in precedenza nota come mwfaProvincia della Frontiera del Nord Ovest (in mwfqinglese: North-West Frontier Province o NWFP) e colloquialmente nota come mwfgSarhad (mwfwpashtu, mwgahindko, mwgqurdu: سرحد, letteralmente "frontiera"), è una delle quattro province del mwggPakistan, con capoluogo mwgwPeshawar. Altri nomi con cui è nota sono mwhaGandhara, nome antico della regione, e mwhqAfghania, in riferimento ai mwhgpashtun che la abitano, noti come Afghani prima della nascita dello stato omonimo.

In mwiginglese la regione è stata nota fino al 19 aprile mwiw2010 come mwjaNorth West Frontier Province (spesso abbreviato in mwjqNWFP). Prende inoltre il nome di mwjgSarhad (سرحد), che significa mwjwFrontiera, in mwkaUrdu, lingua ufficiale del Pakistan. In mwkqLingua pashtu (la più parlata nella regione) viene invece chiamata mwkgPakhtunkhwa (پښتونخواه) ossia mwkwArea Pashtun, termine usato soprattutto dai nazionalisti mwlaPashtun.

Una parte della mwlwLinea Durand la congiunge all'mwmaAfghanistan a ovest e a nord. Confina inoltre con i mwmqTerritori del Nord a nord-est, con l'mwmgAzad Kashmir, il mwmwPunjab pakistano e il mwnaTerritorio della capitale a est e con le mwnqAree tribali di Amministrazione Federale, che la separano dal mwngBelucistan, a sud.

La provincia ha 24 mwoqdistretti, tra cui 18 Distretti di Area insediata e 6 Aree tribali amministrate dalla provincia (PATA), la cui amministrazione è competenza del Presidente del Pakistan e del Governatore della provincia, per gli articoli 246 e 247 della Costituzione del Pakistan.cite-ref-1[1]
